This Ndutu and Gol Kopjes green season photo safari is designed for photographers who value patient observation, strong light, and extended time with wildlife in productive migration areas.
Scheduled for April, this safari takes place when the Great Migration remains concentrated in Tanzania’s southern Serengeti and Ndutu region, yet visitor numbers begin to decline. This creates more freedom for positioning, longer sightings, and improved photographic opportunities.
Although the main birthing period has passed, vast herds of wildebeest and zebra remain in the area, accompanied by high predator activity. Lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and leopards continue to hunt and interact regularly, offering outstanding behavioural photography.
The itinerary combines the granite kopjes of the Gol Kopjes with Ndutu’s short-grass plains, lakes, and woodlands. This variety allows photographers to work with diverse backgrounds, dramatic skies, and changing light conditions.
With a very small group travelling in two private photographic vehicles, guests enjoy generous shooting space, unobstructed views, and extended time at productive sightings. Off-road driving in Ndutu allows precise positioning and improved creative control.
One non-photographer partner may join, subject to availability, sharing a row with their partner and occasionally using the front seat when appropriate.
Personally led by Wild4 owner Stu Porter, this safari focuses on building a strong green-season migration portfolio in a calm, supportive, and professionally guided environment.

Practical experience in real conditions
Each day begins before sunrise to take advantage of cool temperatures and early predator activity. We depart camp early to position ourselves for first light across the plains.
Morning sessions focus on migration herds, predator behaviour, and soft directional light. Stu provides guidance on exposure, composition, and subject isolation as required.
A packed breakfast is enjoyed in the field, allowing us to remain with productive sightings. We return to camp gradually as light becomes harsher.
Midday is reserved for lunch, rest, image downloads, equipment charging, and optional image discussions.
In the afternoon, we return to the field for golden-hour sessions, focusing on backlighting, dust, silhouettes, and dramatic skies before returning after sunset.
The owner of Wild4 Photo Safaris, Stu Porter brings over twenty years of hands-on experience leading professional wildlife photography tours across Africa.
With extensive knowledge of Tanzania’s Serengeti ecosystem, including Ndutu and the Gol Kopjes, he offers deep insight into migration patterns, predator behaviour, and photographic positioning.
His teaching approach is calm, practical, and tailored to each guest’s experience level, emphasising patience, observation, and creative decision-making in the field.
Throughout the safari, Stu provides continuous guidance on camera settings, composition, and fieldcraft, helping photographers develop confidence, consistency, and a refined visual style.
