November and December are known as Kenya’s GREEN SEASON, and the characteristic fresh flush of new growth is linked to the short rains that fall at this time of the year. The dry season is now over and both the environment and the wildlife breathe a huge sigh of relief, food and water are now plentiful. The colour pallet is also distinctly unique at this time of year and your images will take on a variety of fresh green tones. Mornings tend to be clear and bright with powerful and dramatic thunderstorms building up in the afternoons.
Your 13-day photo tour will begin in Nairobi, where a member of our photo safari team will meet you at the airport. After a 1-night stopover, you will be collected at 07:00 am by one of our local Kenyan Safari guides in one of our specially modified photo safari vehicles. The road journey takes you through Kenya’s agricultural heartland and further north past Mount Kenya. You will reach Samburu Reserve in time for a late lunch. A small tented camp situated on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River will be your home for the next four nights.
Samburu Reserve is a photographers paradise and has an amazing diversity of wildlife only found in this area of Kenya. You will spend your photo game drives in search of this unique wildlife which may include Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk, Grevy's Zebra, Desert Warthog, Somali Ostrich, Beisa Oryx, Vulturine Guineafowl as well as Lion, Leopard and Cheetah. There is a very good road network in Samburu which allows you to thoroughly explore this game-rich area without having to travel very far. The beautiful Ewaso Nyiro River and surrounding hills and mountains offer great photo opportunities to capture some stunning landscapes.
After a short morning photo game drive on your final day in Samburu, you will board a light aircraft and fly via Nairobi to the Maasai Mara. You will be met at the airstrip in the Mara and transferred to your second tented camp, right on the Mara River, in the heart of the main Mara Reserve. Gentle rolling hills, open savanna grassland, woodland thickets, and the famous Mara River are some of the scenic highlights you will encounter in the Maasai Mara Reserve. Covering 1500 square kilometres (560 square miles), this is an amazing location to enjoy a photo safari in the heart of authentic Africa.
The Maasai Mara ranks as one of the best places to photograph Africa's BIG CATS - Lion, Leopard & Cheetah. It is also home to an abundance of other mammals and birds. Your small tented camp on the banks of the Mara River will be your home for the next seven nights, and from this centrally located base, you will spend many hours observing and photographing the amazing wildlife found here.
This small group photographic-specific safari allows for a great amount of flexibility in the field. Packed breakfasts will be taken every day and enjoyed either at sightings or under a typical African Picnic Tree. This enables you to spend maximum time out in the field and the freedom to let the wildlife and the situations you find them to dictate the daily pace.
On your final morning in the Mara, you will enjoy a short photo game drive and then fly back to Nairobi where you will be able to freshen up in a day room before your evening transfer to the airport.
This is an exclusive small-group photographic safari with a maximum of 3 participants in 1 private vehicle. Each participant will have plenty of space for equipment and guaranteed access to both sides of the safari vehicle.
Mamai Karesi will lead this photo tour.

I have just returned from a fantastic custom safari to the Kruger with Wild4. This was my second trip in the Kruger with Wild4 and everything from start to finish was absolutely perfect. I absolutely cannot imagine doing this sort of trip there with anyone else. Things were off to a positive from way before we landed. Justyna was as helpful and patient as ever from day 1 and I must say that her suggestions were all spot on. Not only did she sort everything out for us and made it look easy (although I very much doubt it was), but the information she gave us prepared us well for the trip. As soon as we met up with Stefan after we arrived, we had nothing else to "worry" about except take pictures. He was not only great as a guide with his experience, sharp eyes, and genuine interest in wildlife becoming obvious quickly, but he was also excellent as a driver who knows what works and what doesn't photographically and was thus able to position the vehicle perfectly. It was not uncommon for one of us to just say a couple of words about what we wanted to try photographically and he'd immediatelly be on it, getting us in the perfect position while adhering to the rules and keeping the wildlife's interest as a top priority - something all members of the group I was in appreciated immensly. Thank you Stefan, Justyna, and Stu for making this trip happen for us! I look forward to being back with you guys in the future!

I recently did a trip with Wild4 which far outweighed any expectations that I had! Wow what a trip. There was a great variety of animals, Stu has extensive knowledge of the animals and their habitat and was always mindful of us getting the best shots possible. My friend and I had our own bench seats in all the vehicles, which was great as we both had 2 DSLRs with numerous lenses, each vehicle is equipped with beanbags to steady your camera / lens, pockets and enough room to take a camera bag. We had fantastic opportunities to watch the cats for a good period of time and learn a little bit about their life, rather than taking a photo and moving on. I loved that we could sit and watch the lions at Mala Mala play in the Sand River, it was a fantastic opportunity. Stu provided us with some great tuition, I certainly learnt a lot of new photo techniques which I look forward to using back home. I hired a Canon 500mm lens from Stu which was great, I think I used that about 85% of the time and used a 70-200mm for the rest. We had many opportunities for night photography, silhouettes, time lapse, low light etc At the end of our trip we did the reptile extension at Khamai Reptile Centre. We went behind the scenes at the centre and had one of Africa's leading reptile specialist spend the day talking about the reptiles, spiders, scorpions we were about to take pictures of. Donald and his team certainly made for a very safe photo shoot, they were extremely patient positioning some of the reptiles for better light or different background. I learnt a lot from Donald, living in Australia we do have some venomous snakes, the day certainly gave me a renewed appreciation for the reptiles. I would highly recommend the Wild4 team for your next photographic safari you will not be disappointed.
