PLACES VISITED: Maasai Mara (Kenya)

PHOTO SKILL LEVEL: Any level from beginner to advanced

TOUR LEADER: Mamai Karesi

This 9-day small-group photographic safari will begin in Nairobi with a 1-night stopover. A short flight from Nairobi on the following day will take you to the heart of the famous Maasai Mara Reserve. Gentle rolling hills, open savanna grassland, thickets, and the famous Mara River are some of the scenery highlights you will encounter in the Masai Mara Reserve. Covering 1500 square kilometres (560 square miles), this is a fantastic location to experience real Africa on this Kenya photo safari.

This is the time of the Great Migration and the rolling hills are covered with 1000's of migrating Wildebeest and Zebra, which have come to the Mara to enjoy the bountiful grass it has to offer.

You will be staying inside the reserve not far from the major crossing points, allowing you quick access to these photographic hotspots.

You will spend 8 days focusing our efforts and time on capturing the incredible spectacle that is "The Great Migration". Your tented safari camp is well situated right in the middle of the main reserve. Each day will be spent looking out for opportunities to photograph dramatic river crossings, exciting predator encounters, and the wonderful variety of birdlife.

The tour will end at Jomo Kenyatta Airport in Nairobi, Kenya.

This is an exclusive small-group wildlife photography tour with a maximum of 6 participants in 3 private vehicles (2 participants per vehicle). You will have plenty of space for equipment and guaranteed access to both sides of the photo safari vehicle.

During the migration season, it is not uncommon to sit for hours at a time waiting for the Wildebeest to cross the Mara River. You will take packed food in the vehicles to enable you to remain in the field for as long as it takes.

You will have a good chance to see and photograph the following animals:

Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Hippo, Black Rhino, Spotted Hyena, Jackal, Giraffe, Zebra, Wildebeest, Thompson's Gazelle, Grant's Gazelle, Olive Baboon, Vervet Monkey, Coke's Hartebeest, and an excellent variety of birdlife.

Testimonials I wanted to thank you so much for the best safari I have ever been on and for your tremendous help both with the photography and Lightroom. I understand more about both in relation to wildlife than I ever have. Everything was brilliant. We were extraordinary lucky with what we saw but being able to take better photo’s and then edit them with more knowledge means I will have memories that will last for ever. Your (Wild4) attention to detail means that things run smoothly in a part of the world not always known for that. I really can’t thank you and Justyna enough for that.

Testimonials We were very lucky to have found the Wild 4 Team when we were able to take a short photographic safari as part of a business trip to Cape Town. So when we could plan a photography trip overseas, naturally we contacted Stu and Justyna. We brought along a good friend who wanted to do her first photo safari. To say the three of us had a blast would be to underestimate the experience. I wonder how many other photographers have been a few feet from a cheetah taking down an impala only to share the kill with a caracal. Other highlights included a rare king cheetah, mating leopards, a den of wild dogs with their pups, photographing and touching a boomslang, green mamba and black mamba, and being surrounded by a herd of elephants. But perhaps the best part of all was being back with friends whom we know and trust. We know a good thing when we experience it. When we are ready for our next African adventure, you can bet we will contact the Wild 4 Team.
