** Please note that the MAIN focus of this Maasai Mara wildlife photography tour will be on photographing and spending as much time with Africa's Big Cats as possible (Cheetah, Lion & Leopard) There will be lots of opportunities to photograph other animals, but the MAIN focus will be on the Big Cats.

If photographing Africa's Big Cats is on your "bucket list" and you have always wanted to spend quality photographic time with them, then this Maasai Mara photo safari does exactly that.

LOCATION OF PHOTO SAFARI: Kenya

PLACE VISITED: Maasai Mara

PHOTOGRAPHY SKILL LEVEL: Any level from beginner to advanced. Photographic tuition and guidance will be available on the photographic safari.

PHOTO TOUR LEADER / HOST: Stu Porter

This 12-day photographic safari begins in Nairobi with a 1-night stopover. A short flight from Nairobi on the following day will take you to the heart of the famous Maasai Mara Reserve. Gentle rolling hills, open savanna grassland, thickets, and the famous Mara River are some of the scenery highlights you will encounter in the Maasai Mara Reserve. Covering 1500 square kilometres (560 square miles), this is a fantastic location for a wildlife photography safari in the heart of authentic Africa.

The Maasai Mara ranks as one of the best places to photograph Africa's BIG CATS - Lion, Cheetah and Leopard. Lion and Cheetah sightings are consistently very good in the Mara and Leopards are also regularly photographed.

The main focus of this Kenya photo safari will be to go out in search of these three amazing predators, we will sit patiently with them as they rest and move with them when they move. Filmmakers spend countless hours waiting for predators to do something, and are often rewarded for their patience. We will be based in the same location in the mara for all 10 nights - the reason for this is so that we can follow the cats on a daily basis. In a 10 day period, we should be able to document many aspects of their day to day life.. and hope to be rewarded with some photographs of the cats in action.

August / September is a fabulous time in the Mara as not only will there be great big cat sightings, but the incredible Great Migration of over 1 million Wildebeest and Zebra will also be going on at the same time. The sheer numbers of animals you will encounter is astonishing.

On our final morning in the Mara, we will enjoy a short photo game drive and then fly back to Nairobi where we will be able to freshen up in a day room before our evening transfer to the airport.

This is an exclusive small-group wildlife photography tour with a maximum of 6 participants in 3 private vehicles (2 participants per vehicle). You will have plenty of space for equipment and guaranteed access to both sides of the safari vehicle.

Stu Porter will host this Maasai Mara photographic safari.

On this tour, it is not uncommon to stay out all day waiting for the cats to move. We will take packed food in the vehicles to enable us to remain in the field for as long as it takes.

You will have a good chance to see and photograph the following animals:

Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Hippo, Black Rhino, Spotted Hyena, Jackal, Giraffe, Zebra, Wildebeest, Thompson's Gazelle, Grant's Gazelle, Olive Baboon, Vervet Monkey, Coke's Hartebeest, and an excellent variety of birdlife

Testimonials We have a particular affinity for bird photography, but also enjoy the African game animals. I'm pleased to say we are all thrilled with the entire trip. Stu met us at the airport on day 1, and what was to have been a quick couple hour drive to camp, took all afternoon until sunset, we found so many things to shoot. Then we wanted to do something slightly off the itinerary on day 2, and Stu again accommodated us. It was like that throughout the entire trip, the Porter family was very accommodating. Even though we were in a big national park using public facilities, the Porter family made us feel like we were in our own private game reserve, and the animals were there just for us. Stu's local knowledge of the birds and game is just great, he's a walking guide book. And because he's in Kruger so often, he knows where the best spots are. Also he knows all the other guides, and they share information. And most importantly if you are considering a photo safari, Stu is an accomplished nature photographer himself. He knows the light and how to position and approach for the best shot. He knows what photographers want and how to get it. The experience might be quite different if just any guide were to drive you around. And having a spotting vehicle out searching for game really helped us see some extra animals we wouldn't have seen. The results were outstanding. We saw and photographed all the of the big five, and several seldom seen animals totaling 33 mammal species and 164 bird species. All in all, the trip was great!!  highly recommended!

Testimonials Dear Justyna and Stu We had a wonderful time on the photo safari. It was a unique experience, not like anything else we’ve done even though we have travelled to many parts of the world over the last 30 years. It was a thrill to see such a variety of animals and birds and also to see many of them in such large numbers. There can’t be anything better than seeing them in the relatively relaxed setting that Kruger National Park provides. We appreciated all the effort that went into the equipment and the logistics for the photographic safari. The photo vehicle with the bean bags and panning plates was excellent for taking photographs and for enabling us to be close to the animals while staying safe. The catering was great. We enjoyed our breakfasts and lunches and coffee out on the road. We were comfortable in the accommodation at the Satara and Lower Sabie camps. As I mentioned in an email, the Meet & Greet at Johannesburg Airport was perfect after such a long journey from the USA. The flights to and from Skusuza went without a hitch. We really enjoyed meeting and getting to know Mike Lentz. Eleven days together provides a lot of time to talk. He is a great guy. We were very impressed with his knowledge of the animals, birds, and plants in Kruger National Park. His descriptions of animal behavior and other information added immensely to our enjoyment of the photo safari. We also appreciated his efforts to ensure we had a total Kruger Park experience, birds, trees, plants, landscapes as well as the animals. Looking forward to returning on another photographic safari in the future. Best regards,
