BEST
OF KRUGER PLUS BIG CATS PHOTO SAFARI
Join Wild4 Photographic Safaris on a photography adventure which includes 8 nights in
South Africa's premier wildlife reserve, the Kruger
National Park, famous for its astounding variety of mammal and bird species. A further 3 nights spent at the BIG CAT RESERVE will allow you to return home with incredible shots of Africa's Big Cats - Lion, Leopard and Cheetah !!
You will note that on each departure date you may choose to join either Trip "A" or Trip "B"
If you join Trip "A" you will be one of three photographers beginning your safari with the 3 nights at the BIG CAT RESERVE. This will then be followed by 8 nights inside the Kruger National Park. At both locations you will be one of only three photographers in your safari vehicle.
If you decide to join Trip "B" then your trip will begin with the 8 nights in the Kruger National Park and will end with three nights at the BIG CAT RESERVE. You will also be one of only three photographers in your safari vehicle for the duration of your safari.
The reason we do this is so that we can have two safari vehicles running in the Kruger National Park at the same time, each vehicle will have only three photographers in each but there will be a total of 6 photographers on the Kruger National Park section. Stu will rotate between the safari vehicles each day to offer photographic tuition. The other guide on the safari will be one that Stu has used before on many photographic trips and who knows what photographers are looking for, when it comes to light and positioning of the safari vehicle to achieve the best possible photographs.
Established in 1898, “The Kruger” is
one of Africa's oldest and biggest parks. Along with
recently added private reserves, it covers over 20
000 km2 or 7800 miles2. Its diversity of plant, mammal,
reptile and bird species is astounding.
The park offers an array of different habitats, from
grassland and mixed woodland through to dense thickets,
from rolling hills with granite koppies, to riverine
vegetation with beautiful fig, jackalberry and fever
trees.
8 nights are split between the 2 best camps INSIDE
the Park itself. The locations visited offer different
habitat types and are, from experience, the best areas
to view & photograph wildlife in the Kruger.
Our own specially modified photo safari vehicles
are unique amongst vehicles operating in the Kruger.
We take only two radio-linked vehicles on our safaris,
each with a maximum of 3 photographers, allowing each
photographer unrestricted access to both sides of the vehicle.
Both camps offer comfortable, air-conditioned,
en-suite accommodation. Each room has an electric
point for charging batteries. All meals are catered
for by the Wild4 team. Packed breakfasts and lunches
come with us every day, to maximize time in the field.
Dinners are home cooked meals served beneath the African
stars, around our private dinner table. Water & fruit juice are provided at dinner. Alcoholic beverages can be purchased from the camps shop and brought to dinner.
Stu alternates between the two vehicles each day to
offer photo tips and tuition as and when situations
arise. The group size allows for questions to be answered
at any time. Tuition presentations are held on most
evenings after dinner.
The "BIG CAT RESERVE" section
of the safari takes place at a private lodge approximately
1 hour’s drive on a good tarmac road, from the
Kruger National Park's ORPEN exit gate.
The 3 nights you spend in this reserve will provide very different
experiences and opportunities. Being a private reserve
we have more freedom than in the Kruger National Park. Here,
guided by a ranger, you are able to leave the vehicle
and approach some animals such as rhino, hippo, crocodile
& cheetah on foot.
The main attraction of this reserve is the opportunity
to get close to and photograph the BIG CATS of Africa ! You will have private photo sessions with
leopards, cheetahs and lions.
Being able to get close to these animals at the best times of the day for light will enable you to achieve excellent photos of them in their natural
bush environment. Having a more controlled situation
allows us to re-shoot and to fine tune technique and
camera skills. We explore a number of different photo
techniques such as panning, wide angle photography, as well as night & action photography. It is the perfect environment to learn new skills and techniques or fine tune old ones, all under the expert guidance of your tour leader, Stu Porter, who has been visiting the reserve for the past 10 years.
Accommodation is at the reserve’s main lodge
in air-conditioned, en-suite rooms with electricity
to recharge batteries. All meals are included at the Big Cat Reserve, but drinks are for your own account |
NON-PHOTOGRAPHIC
PARTNER / SPOUSE
One discounted seat in each safari vehicle is offered for a patient, nature
loving non-photographic partner / spouse. If your partner
enjoys travelling with you on photo specific trips,
they will certainly enjoy this one.
The non -photographer can choose to sit either in the
front passenger seat next to the driver or next to their
companion.
A non-photographer can also opt to pay the full photographer price in which case both the photographer and the non-photographer would then be guaranteed to have a full bench seat to themselves and unrestricted access to both sides of the safari vehicle.
Non-photographers are also very welcome to take their own photos and videos however they do not have a say as to how long we stay at sightings, when to leave etc as priority will be given to the photographers paying full price. The same priority will be given when it comes to photographic tuition. |

For
those interested in adding to their safari, we offer
an exciting and unique 2 night extension,
either at the beginning or at the end of the scheduled
safari (depending on the departure date)
We spend the two nights at a Forest Lodge,
nestled at the base of the Drakensberg Mountains in
en-suite rooms with electricity to recharge batteries.
The lodge offers excellent photography from a hide/blind
at eye level with the floor of a riverine forest.
Birds, diurnal and nocturnal mammals visit a small waterhole
in front of the hide/blind.
A wild vulture feed is also included
in the schedule. Up to 400 vultures have been counted.
This is a great opportunity to fine tune your “birds
in flight” skills and to support the Southern
African Vulture Conservation initiative.
The highlight is a full day of African Reptile
Photography. This exclusive photo shoot is
spent with a well-expereinced reptile handler who not
only positions the animals for great photos, but also
shares a wealth of interesting information about these
misunderstood and seldom seen animals.
Species may include:
black & green mambas, snouted & spitting cobras,
chameleon, tiger snake, puff adder, baboon spider, scorpion,
sungazer lizard and more....a fantastic opportunity
for great macro shots of these creatures, almost impossible
to duplicate in the wild.
EXTENSION PRICE: (see prices alongside)
Inclusive of 2 nights full board at Forest Lodge, all
road transfers, park entrance fees and private vehicles
and guides.
NOT INCLUDED: Drinks and tips / gratuities
for lodge staff and snake handler. |
