BEST OF KRUGER & BIG CATS - South Africa
BEST OF KRUGER PLUS BIG CATS PHOTO SAFARI
Join Wild4 Photography Safaris on a photographic adventure to South Africa's premier wildlife reserve, the Kruger National Park.

Established in 1898, “The Kruger” is one of Africa's oldest and biggest parks. Along with recently added private reserves, it covers over 20 000 km2 or 7800 miles2. Its diversity of plant, mammal, reptile and bird species is astounding.
The park offers an array of different habitats, from grassland and mixed woodland through to dense thickets, from rolling hills with granite koppies, to riverine vegetation with beautiful fig, jackalberry and fever trees.

10 nights are split between the 2 best camps INSIDE the Park itself. The locations visited offer different habitat types and are, from experience, the best areas to view & photograph wildlife.
Our own specially modified photo safari vehicles are unique amongst vehicles operating in the Kruger. We take only two radio-linked vehicles on our safaris, each with a maximum of 3 photographers, allowing each photographer access to both sides of the vehicle. Small group size is the ideal way to explore Kruger - the photographic way !

All the camps offer comfortable, air-conditioned, en-suite accommodation. Each room has an electric point for charging batteries. All meals are catered for by the Wild4 team. Packed breakfasts and lunches come with us every day, to maximize time in the field. Dinners are home cooked meals served beneath the African stars, around our private dinner table.
Stu alternates between the two vehicles each day to offer photo tips and tuition as and when situations arise. The group size allows for questions to be answered at any time. Tuition presentations are held on most evenings after dinner.

The "BIG CATS" section of the safari takes place at a private lodge approximately 1 hour’s drive on a good tarred road, from the Kruger National Park exit gate.
The time we spend in this reserve provides very different experiences and opportunities. Being a private reserve we have more freedom than in the Kruger Park. Here, guided by our personal ranger, we can leave the vehicle and approach some animals such as rhino, hippo, crocodile & elephant on foot. The resident pride of lions is well habituated to vehicles and when necessary, we are able drive off road in our private vehicle, to follow these cats.

The attraction of this reserve is the opportunity to get close to these beautiful animals in order to capture excellent photos of them in their natural bush environment. Having a more controlled situation allows us to re-shoot and to fine tune technique and camera skills. We explore a number of different photo techniques such as panning, wide angle photography of large animals, night photography and photographing with remote releases from strategically placed camera boxes.

As well as those animals freely living on this 5000 hectare/12400 acre reserve, we can photograph orphaned leopards, cheetahs and a lion pride in the reserve’s breeding project.
Accommodation is at the reserve’s main lodge in air-conditioned, en-suite rooms with electricity to recharge batteries. All meals are catered for by the lodge.

NON-PHOTOGRAPHIC PARTNER / SPOUSE
One discounted seat is offered for a patient, nature loving non-photographic partner / spouse. If your partner enjoys travelling with you on photo specific trips, they will certainly enjoy this one.
The non -photographer can choose to sit either in the front passenger seat next to the driver or next to their companion. Stu, the tour leader will take the vacant position. If you share your seat with Stu, he will always occupy the seat furthest away from the subject, allowing you to have the better position on the bench seat.

2 NIGHT EXTENSION:
For those interested in adding to their safari, we offer an exciting and unique 2 night extension, either at the beginning or at the end of the scheduled safari.

We spend the two nights at a Forest Lodge, nestled at the base of the Drakensberg Mountains in en-suite rooms with electricity to recharge batteries. The lodge offers excellent photography from a hide/blind at eye level with the floor of a riverine forest. Birds, diurnal and nocturnal mammals visit a small waterhole in front of the hide/blind.
A wild vulture feed is also included in the schedule. Up to 400 vultures have been counted. This is a great opportunity to fine tune your “birds in flight” skills and to support the Southern African Vulture Conservation initiative.
The highlight is a full day of African Reptile Photography. This exclusive photo shoot is spent with a well-expereinced reptile handler who not only positions the animals for great photos, but also shares a wealth of interesting information about these misunderstood and seldom seen animals.
Species may include:
black & green mambas, snouted & spitting cobras, chameleon, tiger snake, puff adder, baboon spider, scorpion, sungazer lizard and more....a fantastic opportunity for great macro shots of these creatures, almost impossible to duplicate in the wild.

EXTENSION PRICE: (see prices alongside)
Inclusive of 2 nights full board at Forest Lodge, all road transfers, park entrance fees and private vehicles and guides.
NOT INCLUDED: Drinks and tips / gratuities for lodge staff and snake handler.
